"Flash" is a series of studies of street graffiti 'tags' I photographed and studied as calligraphic word forms.
These street pieces have people's attention for just a moment -- and must thus make an impact at first glance.
I feel some kind of affinity with tags --their ephemeral nature, their rawness. There is a poignancy, an element of danger and desperation about them. Simultaneously a rebellion against the monotonous fabric of cities and suburbs, and also a cry for attention. Sometimes, they share a bit of the radical philosophy and the aesthetic of Zen.
