Minette Lee Mangahas
Fulbright Fellowship Research Award 2012-2013
I'm thrilled to announce that I've been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct a year-long research project in Thailand. I am working with the artists and students at Pohchang Academy of the Arts to study ways in which Buddhist Art is applied in contemporary life.

My research has led to very fruitful investigations and collaborations, including a project called AKSHA, an experimental platform for documenting my work while connecting the craftsmen I meet with contemporary designers.

CURATED BY Jackie Im

We each have a place we call “home,” but is it the hometown or country, the place you grew up in, your current living space? Home may once have been a space for sleep, work and sustenance, not comfort or “hominess.” Today, it also has become a site for the construction of one’s identity.

At Home examines concepts of home and hominess and the shifting identities derived from definitions of “home.” The artists in At Home come from various perspectives, from immigrants to natives of Oakland Chinatown, yet they all attempt to define home for themselves, and in turn add to a larger notion of “home.”

Exhibition: Drawing Out Conversations, Taipei
What is drawing? What is a drawing? Why do artists still make or think about drawing?

Beyond presenting drawings as a primary medium of expression, this exhibition explores artists’ multi-relationships with drawing as a muse, a thinking tool or a subject to be revisited in other art forms such as sculpture, animation, performance and installation.

Drawing Out Conversations was first presented at FOST Gallery, Singapore, in 2008, and then in Hong Kong in 2009 as Drawing Out Conversations: Hong Kong Leg. Now in Taipei, it continues to explore what contemporary drawing encompasses, and hopes to encourage dialogues among artists and audience. There will also be artists’ talks and workshops during the exhibition period.

Exhibition "Eco, Xiang, Echo: Meditations on the African, Andean & Asian Diasporas" at Project Row Houses, Houston
Project Row Houses is excited to announce the opening of Artist Installation Round 32. Curated by artist William Cordova, this series of installations brings together a multigenerational group of artists from various backgrounds and geographic locations. Working in photography, performance, installation, drawing and sculpture, each artist presents work that addresses the often-overlooked connections between distinct cultures. These connections range from paralleling historical narratives to fantastical freedom dreamscapes. This project is a platform for a continued dialogue around the notions of collective consciousness in the Diasporas represented in this exhibition.

Participating Artists include Crystal Campbell, Albert Chong, Coco Fusco, Marina Gutierrez, Ayana Jackson, Minette Mangahas, Glexis Novoa, Mendi + Keith Obadike.
